About the team

The preferred location for this position is in or around Robinhood's offices in New York City, NY or Menlo Park, CA with in-office work capabilities, as may be required by management

The Robinhood Crypto Compliance team is a small but mighty team responsible for the management and oversight of its regulatory compliance program, which is administered by its internal partners. We are a geographically distributed team of crypto compliance professionals who enjoy cross-functional collaboration to solve sophisticated issues. We are in the early stages of building a premier compliance program for our rapidly growing crypto business.

The Crypto Regulatory Compliance Director will supervise the regulatory engagement and licensing program and team, including state licensing, regulatory requests and audits, customer complaints and more. Reporting to the Robinhood Crypto CCO, this candidate will help design and expand the regulatory engagement operations so that it scales to support Robinhood Crypto's bold growth plans. This director will also assist with developing new hires and leading ongoing training for regulatory engagement specialists, as well as ensuring compliance with Firm policies, federal and state regulations.

This person will collaborate with a broad array of cross-functional teams that support, manage, and grow the Robinhood Crypto business and its current and new cryptocurrency product and service offerings. The candidate will also engage and work collaboratively with partners across the Robinhood enterprise, which includes enterprise teams that support an increasingly diverse set of business lines, products and services, and compliance programs.

What you'll do day-to-day:

  • Lead critical aspects of Robinhood Crypto's compliance program and execute on, and design, implement, and maintain appropriate controls for the Robinhood Crypto business.
  • Manage the firm's relationships with regulators in close partnership with Legal and Government Affairs, providing subject matter expertise as it relates to cryptocurrency.
  • Supervise the firm's relationships with trade associations.
  • Handle examinations and regulatory inquiries from federal and state regulators at the direction of Legal.
  • Supervise and review all developments within the regulatory environment of the business, enforce adherence to requirements, and advise management on needed actions.
  • Ensure that any updates to the legislative and regulatory framework is communicated to all partners and that training is provided, if applicable.
  • Identify, highlight, and manage regulatory risks, findings, and recommendations identified internally, by independent reviews or examinations.
  • Handle the application and ongoing processes of any vital state or officer licenses or registrations across RHC.
  • Maintain regulatory registers, and make necessary filings with the regulator as required
  • Development of State Level - Regulator Outreach Program specific to ever changing cryptocurrency laws and regulations.
  • Foster positive relationships with regulatory agencies via timely and accurate reporting of MSB financial reporting, licensing requirements and surety bond program development.
  • Manage the state Money Transmitter license (MTL) application/renewal process through NMLS
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • About you:

  • 3+ years leadership and management experience
  • 6+ years working in a compliance or legal function in the cryptocurrency or blockchain technology sector at a regulated financial institution or governmental or regulatory agency, with a focus on public policy issues
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, JD preferred
  • Familiarity with cryptocurrency markets and blockchain technology
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and coordinate across multiple functional groups
  • Resourceful and adaptive in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments
  • Experience leading small to large teams, providing coaching when needed and performing annual reviews and assessments

  • Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands.
