Job Description

We are seeking a passionate Refrigerant Fluid Transport Core Engineer for our forward-thinking Global Thermal Systems team. This pivotal role calls for a visionary engineer ready to propel our mission of creating smart vehicles for a smart world. You'll spearhead the development and refinement of refrigerant fluid transport systems across our vehicle lineup, ensuring peak performance and sustainability. Lead with Ford's "One Team" ethos by orchestrating comprehensive technical design reviews, authoring foundational engineering documents, and relentlessly pursuing innovation through benchmarking and hands-on troubleshooting. As a steward of Ford's legacy, you will manage supplier excellence, support manufacturing processes, and champion safety and quality initiatives, all while driving cost-saving measures and nurturing the "Quality is Job #1" mindset. Your expertise will support the seamless integration of thermal systems, influencing design changes and production strategies that keep Ford at the forefront of automotive excellence.


  • Lead global core refrigerant fluid transport weekly technical design review (TDR) interface meeting with the application team and/or suppliers.
  • Author engineering specification and foundation documents (DFMEA, DVP ESOW, etc.) for refrigerant hoses and tubes, fittings, ports, and electrical sensors (analog and LIN-based). Topics range from DPA resolution, new technologies, cascading core requirements, etc.
  • Capture lessons learned/PRA and develop updated test plans and requirement specifications.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of components and related sub-system and vehicle issues.
  • Lead weekly meetings with key supplier's core engineering.
  • Support resolution of manufacturing issues at suppliers and VOME plants.
  • Manage all refrigerant fluid transport SREAs
  • Lead benchmarking activities for commodity
  • Own the VOME / PD SCCAF
  • Support global program Durability (DURIS), AIMS, fresh eyes review, and quality issues.
  • Support and align on sign-off of all DPA 0/1 issues for commodity globally
  • TVM support including idea generation and review.
  • Own refrigerant fluid transport crash safety requirement.
  • Support application/D&R engineers to recommend design changes based on CAE results.
  • Support VOME refrigerant evac/ ill and End-of-Line related activities.
  • Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related degree (Master's Degree preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in Thermal Systems Components/Subsystem design or related experience.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the following: worst case circuit analysis (WCCA), authoring engineering specifications, foundation documents (DFMEA, DVP, etc.), FEDE (RQT's, Design Rules, etc.), EMC, NetCom, LIN, automotive safety.
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing technologies related to aluminum tubes, hoses, and sensors.
  • Knowledge of Teamcenter, TcVis Mockup, and ability to move, align modify, and freeze components and assemblies.
  • Proven ability to participate effectively and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Motivation to work in a fast-moving environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues, and effectively communicate core's perspective to management.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively represent the company and interact with suppliers,
  • Demonstrated delivery of results
  • Ability to balance objectives and resolve conflicts.
  • Knowledge of Project, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong English Skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Design and Release experience and vehicle launch experience is a plus
  • CAE knowledge/experience to support program durability assessments is a plus
  • Knowledge of Ford manufacturing processes (VOME plants), including the Evacuation and Fill process and End of Line Checks, is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a non-structured environment where creativity and a start-up mentality is encouraged.
