Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Bring up and characterize custom PCB designs with high speed PCIe links
  • Provide and execute test plans for custom PCB designs to enable system level integration test
  • Provide fixes to defects identified by system verification during the development life cycle
  • Work with stakeholders and others in a multidisciplinary team to define functional requirements and develop solutions to produce quality custom PCB designs
  • Own schematic entry, engineering release processes and E2E quality for IO hardware designs
  • About the Team
  • The IO development team is responsible for developing, testing, characterizing, and maintaining custom PCB designs to enable functions within the IO and CPC drawers for IBM zSystems. Additionally, this team is responsible for the custom electronics behind IBM's cryptographic adapter development. Our team consists of experts who span PCB design, Bring-up, Firmware development, and Test. Responsibilities include Logic and Physical PCB design, System Architecture, Signal and Power Integrity, Firmware Development, Optical Technology, PCB Technology, Lab Bring-up and Test, Failure Analysis, and Card Project Management.

    The IO development also supports designs for IBM Power, IBM Quantum, IBM Memory, and IBM Research. We pursue as many opportunities as possible to produce the most efficient, reliable, advanced technology possible for IBM customers and IBM colleagues.

    In the zSystems IO Logic Design role you would own card designs from early prototyping stages through to their life in the field. Expect a fast-paced work environment with focus on schematic entry, circuit design (analog, RF, digital logic), hands on experience with early hardware bring-up, test and verification in our state-of-the-art IO lab, and high speed signal and control systems. We are a collaboration heavy team, working with manufacturing and supply chain, especially with test and quality control concepts, but also with our mechanical, thermal, power and EMC engineering. In this exciting role there is ample opportunity to take on technical leadership, publish papers and patent ideas, and much more.

    Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering with two years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in custom PCB development
  • Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • PCIe Bringup experience
  • Experience with FPGAs and microcontrollers
  • Fundamental coding experience (Python, C, C++, Scripting)
  • Documentation creation experience (assembly instructions, test procedures, etc.)
  • Circuit development experience

    The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job- related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
