Job Description

Data Factory Engineering and Operations (DFEO) is GDIA's organization for making data available to the enterprise at scale and delivering on Ford's plan to become a data first company. Leveraging our long-term relationship with Google, Ford's Data Factory can provide near unlimited and unparalleled scale by leveraging the public cloud to capture, ingest, transform, curate, and publish data products for stakeholders. The Data Factory provides centralized access, governance, and discoverability to data consumers looking to build analytical tools, develop new AI/ML models, create data dependent software offerings, and turn data into actionable insights and customer value. Ford's data first plan, including the Data Factory, remains a strategic priority for leadership and the company.

The successful candidate will partner with multiple technical and non- technical teams to develop, document and evangelize Data Governance solutions. This individual must be a quick learner and self-starter, as well as able mentor junior team members.

Technical Leadership, Collaboration, and Agile methodology are must-have for this position. The position offers significant exposure and requires ability to work with stakeholders at various levels of leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect end-to-end systems, processes, and applications - use analytical skills to meet reliability, scalability, security requirements.
  • Converse with product owners / product managers / business customers about the realm of the possible, help with scoping and defining Minimum Viable Products
  • Be forward thinking to identify and build the architecture runway needed to keep our capabilities and infrastructure modern and able to leverage new technologies as they emerge.
  • Lead group programming exercises (lunch-and-learn, mob programming, etc.)
  • Pair regularly and lead by example, staying current with the technology stack and being integrally involved with the code base.
  • Apply a test-first mentality and impress upon the team the importance of a healthy suite of tests (unit, integration, smoke tests, etc.)
  • Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience with progressive responsibilities in Software Engineering, Architecture, Data Engineering and Agile Framework
  • 2+ years in a Tech Anchor or Software Architect role
  • 3+ years of experience with demonstrated competencies on cloud and digital platforms. Practical implementation experience with one or more of the major cloud solutions such as AWS, Azure, or GCP (preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience with at least one programming language such as Java with Spring framework NodeJS, JEE, and Python based processing pipelines.
  • 3+ years of experience with SQL and relational databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server or Oracle.
  • Experience leading the design, build and support of enterprise level 'Big Data' or Data Warehousing applications or Cloud based applications.
  • Experience with eXtreme Programming (XP) disciplines including paired programming and Test-first/Test Driven Development (TDD)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and teach new technologies
  • Requires a bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in computer science, information technology or a technology related field
