Your Role and Responsibilities

Are you excited by the potential of bringing integrated campaigns to life - through earned, paid, social, owned - working with clients and partners to reach new audiences and have a direct impact on how IBM Consulting shows up with key stakeholders?

We are seeking a sharp and creative storyteller to drive integrated communication campaigns that build visibility of IBM Consulting's hybrid cloud expertise and elevate the work we do with clients and partners across key industries.

As an External Relations Professional, you would work closely with marketing, our Hybrid Cloud Consultants, clients, partners, and the IBM Institute for Business Value to develop impactful stories that drive forward IBM's hybrid cloud strategy and the role of IBM Consulting in accelerating the strategy. You would focus on illuminating the humans of IBM Consulting - those working with clients to transform their businesses through hybrid cloud strategies and unique design approaches. In addition, you would focus on creative client and strategic partner storytelling, leveraging announcements, but also via thought leadership, aligning with industry trends and having a pulse on market shifts to create timely opportunities and relevant stories that will resonate with external audiences. You will help tell compelling and unexpected stories around our work with partners like SAP, AWS and Microsoft.

To be successful, you must come to work with a 'sleeves rolled up' attitude and be comfortable working independently as well as with large cross-company, multi-disciplinary and global teams to accomplish goals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute integrated communications campaigns; familiarity with earned, paid, social and owned strategies.
  • Collaborate with business and marketing team leads on content creation, new offerings and thought leadership initiatives, to drive integrated earned media communications programs.
  • Aggressively drive news around IBM's thought leadership position and our experts' forward-thinking point-of-view on hybrid cloud and cloud transformation.
  • Continually mine compelling, personal stories from IBM Consulting's expert workforce that can be shared with external audiences through a variety of channels.
  • Develop and deploy written content, including strategic plans, blogs, pitches, press releases, op-eds, and other thought leadership material.
  • Develop internal assets and processes to ensure consistent global messaging and aggressive activation around key narratives.
  • Identify new client stories and lead on telling the IBM hybrid cloud narrative from the perspective of the client, and how IBM's strategy is enabling transformations.
  • Serve as a trusted communications advisor to senior executives and other spokespeople.
  • Partner with corporate communications colleagues, geographic communications teams, internal communications experts, social media colleagues and others to maintain cohesive messaging in support of IBM's global strategy.
  • Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 8+ years in media relations, marketing communications, or similar experience in-house or in an agency setting.
  • Hands-on experience driving communications plans, working with marketing, AR and social teams.
  • Experience in technology storytelling and knowledge of the media landscape.
  • High level of organization and track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines.

  • Ability to write compelling stories and arguments.
  • Hold connections with top-tier reporters, social media pundits and other industry influencers.
  • Ability to synthesize complex technologies, products, and market challenges.
  • Multitasker; able to set priorities in a fast-paced environment while driving progress on multiple fronts.
