The Engineering Operations and Comms team is responsible for establishing the operating rhythm for the engineering team. This includes effective information flow within engineering, across partner teams and to upper management. It is a small and mighty team of ~3 program managers who are culture carriers with the opportunity to influence, communicate and articulate decisions and rationale to the engineering leadership and their teams on key decisions and events.

The focus of the leader will be to effectively build the mechanisms and channels to manage information flow through development of a narrative and also right business cadence. The ideal candidate will be a partner to the engineering leadership team, embedded and with strong ownership of engineering-wide initiatives and with close partnership with peers in the tech programs org. High degree of influence to help create leverage, articulating the short and long term value of introducing any new frameworks for teams is a key success area.

Day to Day responsibilities

  • Develop a consistent strategic narrative across all components of engineering. Synthesizing major communication decisions between eng leadership and broader eng org, ensuring strategy and priority alignment.
  • Draft communications and prep speakers as well as own executive messaging for internal and external audiences to ensure an engaged, informed, and aligned workforce.
  • Develop a strong pulse for engineering sentiment across all eng groups, and a clear understanding of how day to day work maps back to company priorities.
  • Develop a technical branding strategy to showcase and evangelize complex, fascinating and cutting edge engineering work and culture with broader tech and fin tech industry.
  • Establish and run a solid business cadence, driving regular business reviews with executive stakeholders, annual strategic planning as well as iterative planning in collaboration with the TPM team.
  • HC planning and budget management, conflict management organizational communications, running programs to improve culture, development and training in the org.
  • Manage and lead critical strategic initiatives across eng, developing compelling and insightful recommendations to the eng leadership team by identifying key priorities and gaps.
  • Skills

  • Build strong partnerships across functions and must inspire trust by demonstrating excellent judgment and integrity.
  • Highly strategic, comfortable with ambiguity, have sound judgment when prioritizing high volume of incoming requests and outstanding communicator with bias to action.
  • Switch context easily, handle ambiguous situations and creative problem solving. Attention to detail and having the ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across functions.
  • Effectively delegates and empowers their small (but mighty) team to get maximum output.
  • Experience

  • 10+ years of experience as a senior cross-functional contributor and leader in a technical organization
  • Experience working in engineering organizations spanning work across engineering, product, technical program management and engineering operations.
  • Experience in communications, employee experience, program management, or similar areas of expertise
  • Experience managing and mobilizing a small team for high impact with influence spanning an organization of hundreds or thousands.
  • Hands on experience managing large-scale, aggressive projects in a tech first company or engineering domain.
  • Enthusiasm about Robinhood's mission and goals.
  • Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands.
